Shoulder Conditions

Shoulder Arthritis

Arthritis of the shoulder occurs when the cartilage in the shoulder joint begins to wear out. This can be following traumatic events to the shoulder or just repetitive use of the shoulder. Treatment options for arthritis of the shoulder include anti-inflammatory medications, physical therapy, corticosteroid injections, partial shoulder replacement and total shoulder replacement. Dr. Mayman can review your symptoms, clinical findings and imaging findings and come up with an individualized treatment plan for you.

Shoulder Instability

Instability of the shoulder usually occurs after a traumatic dislocation of the shoulder. This traumatic dislocation usually causes a tear in the labrum cartilage of the shoulder. Treatment of shoulder instability usually begins with physical therapy. If the instability becomes recurrent then arthroscopic surgery can be performed to repair the labrum and restore stability of the shoulder.

Rotator Cuff Tears

The shoulder joint is stabilized by the rotator cuff tendons. The rotator cuff muscles are responsible for a large majority of shoulder motion. Tears in the rotator cuff cause pain and weakness. Treatment of rotator cuff tears can include anti-inflammatory medications, physical therapy, corticosteroid injections and arthroscopic surgery. Most patients with rotator cuff tears will be diagnosed with an MRI
