How do I go about donating blood? How long before surgery do I donate?

What is post-surgery protocol?
Following, hip replacement surgery, most patients are in the hospital for 3-4 days. You begin walking with the physical therapists in the hospital starting the day of or the day after your surgery. Most people require physical therapy for 6 weeks to 3 months after surgery. All patients recover at different rates. Dr. Mayman would be happy to discuss your specific rehabilitation protocol with you in the office.
Following knee replacement surgery, most patients are in the hospital for 3 to 4 days. Some patients are then transferred to an inpatient rehabilitation facility prior to going home. By the time of discharge, most patients are walking with a cane or walker. Most patients are able to get rid of their walking aids within the first 6 weeks. It is critically important to work with a physical therapist for at least the first 6 weeks after surgery in order to regain motion in the knee.
How long will I be in rehab?
Following surgery, you will either go to a rehab facility or receive home care services. If you go to a rehab facility, the length of your stay will depend on how quickly you are meeting your rehab goals and your insurance plan.

Sutures can be removed in rehab or by a home care nurse 10-14 days after surgery.
How many follow-up appointments will I have after surgery and when will they be?

Other FAQs
What is a PA?
PA stands for Physician Assistant. Dr. Mayman’s PA is Brian Michaels. Physician Assistants are certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) – a mark of professional accomplishment – and state-licensed. They are health professionals who practice medicine as members of a team with their supervising physicians. Physician Assistants are trained in the medical model. In some schools they attend many of the same classes as medical students. One of the main differences between PA education and physician education is not the core content of the curriculum but the amount of time spent in school. The length of a PA program is about two thirds that of medical school. PAs deliver a broad range of medical and surgical services to diverse populations in rural and urban settings. As part of their comprehensive responsibilities, PAs conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret tests, perform therapeutic injections, counsel on preventive health care, assist in surgery, and prescribe medications.
How can I obtain a copy of my medical records?
Per the HIPPA Privacy Rule, if you would like your medical records from Dr. Mayman sent to you or a third party, you must complete a Medical Records Request form. Please contact our office to obtain this form.
